Substance Abuse Counseling
When you are in the grips of addiction, it is often hard to seek the substance abuse counseling you need. You may feel like no one understands you or is willing to help with your alcohol or drug addiction. It’s important to turn to an addiction counseling professional that understands what you are going through and provides you with the recovery support need. I am committed to providing you with a substance abuse treatment plan that will end your addiction cycle.
I work closely with the family members of addicts/people with substance use disorders. Are you worried about someone with a gambling, drinking, or drug abuse problem? Oftentimes the loved one of a person with addiction issues feels hopeless and is unable to believe things can ever change.
Drug and Alcohol Counseling
Effective drug and alcohol abuse treatment plans begin with the desire to change. My goal as an addiction counselor is to help assist you in moving through the stages of change – from ambivalence to action. Often times our willpower is not enough to make effective behavior changes. Together we will discover ways for you to make smart choices in your life that will leave lasting effects.
Warning Signs of Substance Abuse
Physical Signs
To spot possible substance abuse, watch for physical signs. Common warning signs include bloodshot eyes, changes in appetite resulting in sudden weight loss or gain, and irregular sleep patterns.
Individuals who misuse drugs or alcohol may exhibit dilated or constricted pupils, which can be an indication of drug influence. Additionally, persistent breath odor, body odor, or the smell of drugs or alcohol on clothing may also raise concerns.
Behavioral Signs
Behavioral changes are another set of indicators that can help identify signs of substance abuse. Mood swings, frequent irritability, and unexplained changes in behavior or personality are often present in individuals struggling with substance use disorders.
Secretive behavior, such as hiding or sneaking around, can be a clear sign of drug addiction. Furthermore, withdrawal symptoms like tremors, nausea, or anxiety may manifest when the individual tries to abstain from drugs or alcohol.
A person’s performance at work, school, or home may decline as a result of substance abuse, leading to missed deadlines, absences, or a general lack of motivation. Financial problems may also arise due to excessive spending on drugs or alcohol.
It is important for family members and friends to be vigilant and take notice of these signs and symptoms of drug abuse. If they see these signs, they should encourage the person to get seek help and support them in recovery. Early help and support can make a significant difference in overcoming substance use and promoting a healthier life.
